iKasi Media is our Non-Profit foundation and origin of this exciting journey. iKasi Media is an accredited training provider that goes into rural communities to train unemployed youth in film and television. The need to create work opportunities for students who have been trained was evident and therefore the production company Berning & Inglis was initiated. On all Berning & Inglis productions, workspaces are created for iKasi Media trainees to be mentored by the professional crew. The professional crew who work on our productions have been hand-picked not only for their expertise and work ethic but also for their passion to up-skill and mentor future generations. A portion of Berning & Inglis profits is donated to iKasi Media to ensure that more training workshop can be held.
For their training programmes, iKasi Media has partnered with the NYDA. The NYDA enhances the iKasi workshops by facilitating lifeskills and entrepreneurship sessions as a part of the programme. The main aim of the iKasi Media’s sessions are to get students producing content. MoJo (Mobile Journalism or filming with your mobile phone) is one of the first workshops that are delivered. Once the students have been trained, they become Community Journalists and Berning & Inglis drives the content creation process by commissioning specific stories. The more these community journalists produce, the better the quality of content submitted becomes.
